Savannah Ramirez, 19,
rang in the New Year by accidentally shooting her 22-year-old brother,Manuel Ortiz, in the head while posing for a picture for Facebook. Ortiz died
instantly, according to the Daily Mail.
The siblings had been out
drinking on New Year’s Eve in Phoenix, Arizona. After returned home in the
early hours of the morning, they began drunkenly playing around with the gun.
Ramirez accidentally shot her brother around 6:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Two other people were with
them. According to ABC 15, it is unclear if they knew the gun was loaded.
Police Sergeant Steve Martos said that the young
woman will always regret her actions:
“Every
New Year’s Eve, this particular sister is going to be thinking about this for
the rest of her life on how … drinking overnight, playing with a gun and now
shoots and kills her brother,” he said.
Ramirez was taken into custody,
then released while police continue the investigation.
