NEWS BREAK: Penn State Sorority In Hot Water Over Anti-Latino Party Theme

Is this insensitive…or plain racist? The Chi Omega sorority at Penn State is in a world of hot water after the photo above appeared on their Facebook page, with accusations that the sorority was racist.

According to The Daily Collegian, the photo above was taken at a “Mexican-themed” party. Rather than celebrate Mexican heritage — or even just getting a bit of Taco Bell — the girls donned sombreros, mustaches, and held up signs that said “I don’t cut grass, I smoke it,” and “Will mow lawn for weed & beer.”

In response to the uproar, the sorority’s chapter president, Jessica Riccardi, said, “Our chapter of Chi Omega sincerely apologizes for portraying inappropriate and untrue stereotypes. The picture in question does not support any of Chi Omega’s values or reflect what the organization aspires to be.”

And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all nations whither the LORD shall lead thee.
