No one knows the power of the gay agenda better than gospel singer Donnie McClurkin.
Donnie was set to perform at the concert commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, but was blocked by gay activists who say that he is a bigot.
“The Arts and Humanities Commission and Donnie McClurkin’s management decided that it would be best for him to withdraw because the purpose of the event is to bring people together,” said Doxie McCoy, a spokeswoman for Gray. “Mayor Gray said the purpose of the event is to promote peace and harmony. That is what King was all about.”
McClurkin says that he was “asked not to attend,” even posting a video statement on the matter this week. He seems upset about what happened.“There should be freedom of speech as long as it’s done in love,” McClurkin said. He says that it’s stunning that, “a black man, a black artist is uninvited from a civil rights movement depicting the love, the unity, the peace, the tolerance.”
The alleged homophobia began when McClurkin wrote on a Christian website over 11 years ago. He says that he was s*xually abused as a child, and this led to his gay lifestyle. Abuse is rampant in quite a few inner city homes, typically because the father is often not present to protect children from abuse. This abuse leads, some say, to an interest in the gay lifestyle that might not have occurred otherwise.
The spike in single parent homes, as well as a “part-time” gay lifestyle is believed to be linked to the growth in prison populations among the African American community.
Straight men go to prison and come out engaging in homosexuality. Also, the prison growth rate has incarcerated more black men than any other ethnic group, taking fathers out of the homes in the process. This has led some in the black church to feel that their experience with the gay lifestyle is not the same as it is for white Americans.
On the website, McClurkin wrote, “I’ve been through this and have experienced God’s power to change my lifestyle. I am delivered and I know God can deliver others, too.”
Phil Pannell, a gay rights activist, said that he was glad to have played a role in keeping McClurkin out of the Dr. King event.
“I take no joy that he is not performing,” Pannell said. “I really admire Donnie McClurkin’s artistry, but this is a situation where a political polemic obscured his artistry.”
