Homosexual man who went to a new doctor for a check-up left outraged after being 'diagnosed' with being chronically gay

An openly gay California man was diagnosed with ‘homosexual behavior’ after visiting a new doctor for a routine physical.

Matthew Moore, 45, found ‘homosexual behavior’ listed under ‘chronic conditions’ and ‘diagnosis,’ along with the outdated code 302.0, NBC Los Angeles reported.

‘When I look up code 302.0 and its sexual deviancy or mental illness, and that code has been removed or suggested heavily not to be used since 1973,’ Moore told the news outlet.

‘At first, I kind of laughed, I thought, 'Here's another way that gay people are lessened and made to feel less-than,’ he said. ‘And then as I thought about it and as I dealt with it, it angered me.’

The Torrance Memorial Physician Network apologetically responded to Moore's complaint, stating they do ‘not view homosexuality as a disease or a chronic condition,’ according to Bilerico.

In addition, the physician network also refunded Moore his $30 co-payment. 

‘We fully appreciate your frustration and anger related to your experience and are committed to ensuring that such events are not repeated,’ Heidi Assigal, senior director of Torrance Health Association, Inc., wrote.

The doctor's name has not been publicly released.

The American Psychological Association removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders in 1973, citing that ‘research has found no inherent association between any of these sexual orientations and psychopathology.’ according to the Huffington Post.
