SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A former NBA player has been arrested in Puerto Rico after federal agents say they seized 218 marijuana plants and 40 rounds of assault-rifle ammunition at his house.
Jose Ortiz “Piculín” Rijos was charged Thursday with possession with intent to distribute marijuana plants. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez says Ortiz faces a minimum of five years in prison if found guilty.
She said that federal agents on Wednesday raided a home he was renting in the central mountain town of Cayey. It followed a monthlong investigation following a tip to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Ortiz played for the Utah Jazz from 1988 to 1990. He also played for Oregon State University.
| But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. |
| An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips [there is] as a burning fire. |
