Transgender student wins civil rights battle in Colorado (EDOM)




A transgender first-grader has won the right to use the girls’ restroom at a Colorado school.

Coy Mathis was born a boy, but identifies as a girl.

Coy’s parents took the case to the Colorado Civil Rights Division after Eagleside Elementary banned Coy from the girls’ bathroom.

The State’s Rights Division ruled the ban creates a hostile and intimidating environment.

Coy’s mother praised the decision.
“We’re extremely happy that she is going to be treated equally and we thank the civil rights division for coming to this conclusion,” she said. “We are very grateful to the voters of Colorado for putting these laws into place to begin with.

 There are thousands of family’s like ours across the country and none should have to fight for their children to have basic respect.”




Coy had been homeschooled during the court proceedings and will now return to school.

The district did not respond to requests to comment on the case.
