An Oklahoma restaurant owner, and former candidate for political office, refuses to serve blacks, gays, the disabled and ‘welfare people,’ in his Oklahoma restaurant.
James refused to serve a disabled man.
Gary James, the owner of Gary’s Chicaros restaurant, is receiving heavy criticism for remarks he made during an interview with KFOR News . The News station decided to investigate James after a large number of complaints about racism and discrimination began to surface.
It began after James refused to serve a disabled man named Matt Gard. Gard reported that James refused to serve him, due to his disability. Prior to 2010, Matt Gard says he was a frequent customer of Chicaros restaurant.
In Febraury of 2010, however, Gard was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident. His spinal cord was injured during that event, leaving him partially paralyzed and confined to a wheel chair. It was only after the accident that James refused the disabled man service at Chicaros.
“He doesn’t like certain people of race, color, ethnicity,”
Gard told KFOR.
Official Chicaros restaurant tee shirts are covered with racial slurs.
During the brief interview with KFOR News, James used racially charged and homophobic language. He also showed off Chicaros restaurant’s official tee shirts, which are printed with the words ‘n*gger,’ and ‘f*ggot.’ The shirts also display threats of violence against Muslims, minorities and democrats.
James made headlines in 2009, when running for council member, in the city of Enid, where Chicaros restaurant is located. At that time he told the press that he doesn’t serve ‘trash,’ and ‘welfare people.’
During the recent interview with KFOR News, James doubled down on previous statements, stating Chicaros restaurant doesn’t serve people with no jobs or people on welfare.
“Well if you work, you own a business, pay your taxes, you’re more than welcome here. If you’re on welfare, stay home and spend my money there. I don’t deal with these people walking down the street with no jobs on welfare.”
The reporter didn’t ask James how he can tell if someone is on welfare. I really wish she would have.
James says he’s not a racist.
While on the one hand James claims he’s neither a bigot or a racist, during the same interview he stated:
“I’ve been in business 44 years, I think I can spot a freak or a f*ggot. I really don’t want gays around. Any man that would compromise his own body would compromise anything.”
After the interview aired more than 140 comments were posted on the Chicaros restaurant’s Facebook page. Many of those comments came from previous patrons of Chicaros, who also claim that James won’t serve African-American or Hispanic customers.
Additional comments that were posted on Yelp show that the discrimination at Chicaros restaurant goes even farther, still:

James used homophobic language as well.
According to Enidnews.com, during the 2009 elections James told reporters:
“I don’t like girlie men. I’m not fond of men with all kinds of metal in their face. My customers don’t want them around, and I don’t want them around. I don’t consider that racist.”
Of course James denies that he’s a racist.
“If I reached over there and slapped the sh** out of you, you should be offended. But to call someone a ‘chink’ or someone call me a bigot, that doesn’t bother me.”
James said during the KFOR interview.
“Would you call me a chink?” the reporter asked in return.
James replied,
“No…not unless we were drinking and joking around or something.”
Time to shut down Chicaros restaurant?
Since being called a racist and a bigot doesn’t bother James, how about hitting him where it hurts? Someone like this has no business being in business. It’s amazing that the residents of this Oklahoma town have kept visiting Chicaros restaurant, for the past 44 years. Enough is enough.
Discrimination is not just wrong, it’s against the law. People who have been refused service at Chicaros in Enid, Oklahoma are being asked to report their experiences to the state Attorney General’s office.
SCRIPTURES
ECCLESIASTICUS 40:28 My son, lead not a beggar's life; for better it is to die than to beg.
29 The life of him that dependeth on another man's table is not to be counted for a life; for he polluteth himself with other men's meat: but a wise man well nurtured will beware thereof.
30 Begging is sweet in the mouth of the shameless: but in his belly there shall burn a fire.
ECCLESIASTICUS 12:10 Never trust thine enemy: for like as iron rusteth, so is his wickedness.
11 Though he humble himself, and go crouching, yet take good heed and beware of him, and thou shalt be unto him as if thou hadst wiped a lookingglass, and thou shalt know that his rust hath not been altogether wiped away.
12 Set him not by thee, lest, when he hath overthrown thee, he stand up in thy place; neither let him sit at thy right hand, lest he seek to take thy seat, and thou at the last remember my words, and be pricked therewith.
