Marissa Alexander’s husband tells his side of the story, and it will surprise you

Marissa Alexander

Rico Gray

They say that there are at least three sides to every story:  His side, her side and the truth.  This might also be true in the case of Marissa Alexander.  Alexander has been in jail for many months over an incident during which she allegedly fired warning shots to scare off her abusive husband, whom she claimed had come to harm her and her children.  The country has rallied behind Marissa, with marches and rallies all over the United States.
It would be patently unfair to talk about the case without hearing the side of her husband, Rico Gray.  But no one has brought up his side of the story, since it might be easier to just believe that he is a monster.   Some will stick with that assertion, while others will try to get all the facts and see what happened.
TheBlackChannel.net did an interview with Rico to ask for his side of the story.  The interview (below) starts with the announcer stating clearly that “You have no idea how deep the rabbit hole goes.”   He starts the interview off by asking for background on Rico, who he is and what kind of man he is.
Rico starts by saying that he’s “just an ordinary guy.”  He also says that he’s family-oriented and believes in taking care of his kids “to the utmost.”
He says that he met Marissa through a close friend.   The two met back in 2007.  The host admits that when he was first contacted by Mr. Gray, he didn’t believe his story.  But after hearing more details and seeing some documentation, he says that he was then brought to want to at least interview him to give him a fair chance to share his point of view.
Mr. Gray says that he doesn’t want anything other than the truth to be out there, and that many people are mischaracterizing the situation or simplifying it.   He says that he doesn’t understand why no one wants to support the truth when there are documents that contradict quite a bit of what has been reported in the media.
For one thing, Rico says that in 2010, he had to call police to report that he’d been attacked by Marissa.  He says that during an argument, he asked Marissa to leave.  But he says that she refused to leave the house and began to physically attack him.  He says that he called the police, but by the time they arrived, Marissa had already left.
Rico says that the police didn’t do anything, even though he’d told them that he was a victim of domestic violence.  They told him that the lack of any physical wounds undermined his claim that he’d been physically attacked.  The fundamental question being asked by the host is whether or not the police would have done something different if she’d been the one who called the police instead.
A surprising part of the interview is when Rico says that Marissa actually threatened him with a gun.  “Imma shoot yo ass,” is what he says that she told him, during an incident that occurred years before the one that led to her arrest.  He says that he and the kids actually ran away from Marissa, whom he claims threatened his life.  When he was asked why he was arrested, he says that he had no idea what Marissa told them.  He says that he doesn’t even know what grounds they had for arresting him for domestic battery.
Rico says that Marissa apologized to him after the first gun-related incident, and even wrote a letter to the state’s attorney claiming that the incident wasn’t Rico’s fault and that he never put his hands on her.  He says that all reports about him putting his hands on Marissa are entirely untrue and can’t be proven by anyone.  He says “I have never put my hands on Marissa,” and has never been convicted for any domestic violence incident involving her.
Rico says that there are no pictures or medical reports confirming any injuries to Marissa, because he never abused her.  He also says that the only evidence about what happened comes from Marissa’s letter to the state’s attorney claiming that the charges were fabricated. The host openly wonders why the police report was never revealed to the public, during which Marissa allegedly attacked Rico.

Ecclesiastes 7:26
And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

Deuteronomy 28:56
The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,
