Police: Kenner woman kills estranged husband with 4 children in home

Lyndell Desilva

Kenner police said a woman shot and killed her estranged husband Tuesday while four children were in the home.

Officers say that Lyndell Desilva was shot multiple times by his wife. Officers say Desilva died from his injuries.

Just after 2:30 a.m., officers were called to the 2400 block of Kentucky Avenue after one of the children in the home called 911 to report arguing and gunfire. Officers arrived to find Desilva shot. He was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The woman had bruises on her body, but they appeared to be old, according to Kenner police spokesman Sgt. Brian McGregor. He said they were trying to determine how she got them.

"There was a physical altercation in the house, and mom fearing for her safety as well as the children's basically told the children to run and then while they were running, they heard gunshots inside the home," said McGregor.

The children, ages 4 to 14, were not injured, McGregor said. They were turned over to their grandparents.

Police said the couple - married for 12 years - had separated, and the woman was living at the home with the children. They said the man showed up armed with a gun; the woman shot him with her own gun.

Family members said the couple had a history of domestic violence, but McGregor said nothing had ever been reported to police.

Deuteronomy 28:54
So that the man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children which he shall leave:

Proverbs 21:9
It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
