Man Steals Girlfriend’s Dog, Cooks It, Then Feeds It to Her

Ryan Watenpaugh, 34

In August, Ryan Watenpaugh, 34, and his then-girlfriend got into a heated argument. Shortly following the argument, the woman’s Pomeranian named Bear went missing. During the first week of September, the couple reconciled, and Watenpaugh cooked his then-girlfriend a meal that included meat.
Then on September 7, he allegedly sent a series of menacing text messages to his then-girlfriend, reading in part, “How’s your dog taste? I thought it was better with BBQ and those Hawaiian buns … the smile on my face when you read this … priceless.” The haunting text messages continued until September 9, when Watenpaugh allegedly left the dog’s paws on his girlfriend’s doorstep.

Police say the couple has a history of violence in their relationship. “It was just a pressure cooker or a loaded spring ready to snap, this relationship was very tumultuous and toxic,” explained Sgt. Cogle.
Watenpaugh was arrested on September 11, near his home in Palo Cedro, CA. Police served a search warrant of his home and found a Romanian variant AK-47 assault rifle and multiple high capacity magazines. His bail was set for $325,000 but placed on hold after the arresting officer suspected Watenpaugh could have funds related to an illegal marijuana grow at his residence. A local news station reports that Watenpaugh’s mother testified to the source of the money she was presenting as bail during a bail hearing on Wednesday. A judge ruled the money was not related to any felonious activity and removed the bail hold. Watenpaugh was released Wednesday. There is a criminal protective order issued making it a crime for Watenpaugh to come within 100 yards of his ex-girlfriend according to the DA’s office.
He’s slated to appear in court again for a preliminary hearing on September 23. According to the DA’s office, Watenpaugh faces up to 12 years in jail.

20 He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the Lord.
