Saudi and Arab allies bomb Houthi positions in Yemen / Warplanes hit Yemen's Sanaa overnight, after dawn-residents

Defence Minister Mohammad bin Salman coordinated the strikes at the Royal Saudi Air Force operations centre near Riyadh [SPAnews]




Saudi Arabia and a coalition of regional allies have launched a military operation in Yemen against the Houthi rebels, who deposed the US-backed Yemeni president last month.
Adel al-Jubair, Saudi ambassador to the US, said on Wednesday that a coalition consisting of 10 countries, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), had begun airstrikes at 7pm Eastern time.

Warplanes hit Yemen's Sanaa overnight, after dawn-residents



Warplanes struck the Yemeni capital of Sanaa overnight and after daybreak on Monday, residents said, the fifth day of a campaign by Saudi-led forces against Houthi forces opposed to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

One resident said the strikes appeared to hit mainly around the presidential palace, adjacent to the diplomatic quarter of the capital.

"It was a night from hell," a Yemeni diplomat said.
