Right before the bombs rained down, a Russian general arrived in Baghdad warned the U.S. military planners to keep America's own warplanes out of the way. U.S. officials said they would not alter their flight plans.
This is the beginning of a dangerous new phase of the international intervention in the Syrian civil war. Not only has Russia tried to order U.S. forces to step aside, it actually has the firepower to back up its demands. Some of the 35 warplanes Russia has deployed to Syria are specifically designed for fighting foes like the United States, not ISIS.

Pastor and popular preacher, Creflo Dollar, recently made controversial statements about, you guessed it, money. Considering his history, and his name for that matter, this should no longer serve as a surprise but many are outraged.
The preacher’s account was updated on Wednesday evening with a post that read, “Jesus bled and died for us so that we can lay claim to the promise of financial prosperity.”
While Dollar has been accused many times before of promoting the prosperity gospel, this was the first time that he was the most obvious and blatant with his statements and beliefs. Soon, he found himself being mocked for the statement, which is clearly at odds with what many people believe is the Christian message.
Earlier this year Dollar outraged America after his private jet ran off the runway of Biggins Hill Airport in Kent. He then used this incident to request $65 million from his followers, creating something like a ‘Go Fund Me’ page.
Later the pastor was publicly criticized for his use of the pulpit to generate funds for his aircraft, to which he replied that the criticism was that of the Devil who was allegedly trying to “discredit him.”
ChristianToday explains that the preaching of prosperity is associated with a strand of Pentecostal theology that claims if Christians can muster up enough faith and send money to a particular ministry then they will be blessed financially in return. Many mainline denominations consider this to be wrong, including evangelicals who have chosen to distance themselves from this practice.

The mother of Freddie Gray, whose death in the custody of Baltimore police ignited protests in the city and around the nation this spring, reportedly tried to commit suicide Wednesday night, according to The New York Daily News.
Gloria Darden reportedly “sustained superficial wounds and was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation after the suicide attempt,” the report says.
Gray, 25, was arrested April 12 on questionable charges, and was injured when he was forced to ride without a seatbelt in a police transport van. He died a week later, and the family recently received a settlement of $6.4 million from the city as a result of the death.
Details about just what happened on Wednesday remain unclear. And hours after the incident, the family’s attorney, William H. Murphy, Jr. tweeted a statement requesting privacy.

(CBS) — The first-ever Michael Jordan store is about to open right here in Chicago and it’s drawing serious sneaker collectors from all over the country.
There is already a long line outside 32 South State Street in the Loop. That’s where the new Jordan shopwill open its doors Saturday.
Some people started lining up as early as Monday and some came from as far away as Las Vegas and Baltimore.
They don’t know exactly what they’ll find inside, but they’re pumped.
“From what I’m hearing, there’s going to be shoes worth thousands of dollars,” said one fan.
No word if Jordan will actually make an appearance at the opening.

A 1-year-old girl was recently rescued by police after a daycare worker reportedly left the infant inside of the facility and closed it for the evening. Now, the little girl’s father is sharing the video of officers breaking into the daycare to rescue his child.
The Humboldt Park Daycare facility, located on the West Side of Chicago, was open business as usual on Tuesday although an investigation had taken place just the night before.
Cornelius Jones, the child’s father, says that no one answered the door when he arrived to pick up his daughter and he could hear his baby crying inside.
The frantic father was able to flag down police who were luckily able to open the lock to the facility.
“It was pitch black and like, the police had flashlights down and the only thing I could see was my baby crawling on the floor,” Jones said after finding his daughter, Journee, alone, crying and crawling on the floor.
“It was dramatic feeling. I didn’t know what to feel like, my heart dropped. I was just glad she was okay,” Jones said.

It is no secret that Black people are sent to prison at disproportional rates, outnumbering white prisoners in some states six to one. Delaware is not a state mentioned often when discussing mass incarceration, but statistics about the state’s inmates are mind boggling. Of the more than 200 children locked up in Delaware, more than 75 percent are Black; overall, Black people account for 56 percent of inmates; this is despite the fact that they only account for 22 percent of the state’s population.
Two teenagers who spoke with The News Journal about how it feels for the system to be stacked against them summed up the state of mass incarceration in America, with one stating, “This is how the world operates,” and another stating, “If I was white, it would be different.” As most people, including lawyers, judges and police officers who feed the system, continue about life as if locking up such a high percentage of the population in the most racist manner in existence is normal, Delaware Supreme Court Chief Justice Leo Strine refuses to accept it as the norm.

SEPTEMBER 11--A black West Virginia woman was sexually assaulted, stabbed, and tortured while being held captive by her white abductors, one of whom told her, "That's what we do to niggers around here."
The 23-year-old victim was freed Saturday after cops responded to the home of Frankie Brewster for a "welfare check on a female that was reportedly being held against her will." When cops arrived, Brewster claimed she was the only one home, but then the victim limped to the door and said, "Help me."
According to six harrowing criminal complaints, the woman, who apparently had been held for more than a week, had four stab wounds in her left leg, bruised eyes, and had been repeatedly sexually assaulted and humiliated. The woman told police that she was forced to lick Brewster's "toes, vagina, and anal cavity."
Brewster's son Bobby forced the woman to eat dog and rat feces, according to one complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court. The victim, who is now hospitalized, was raped at knifepoint, choked with a cable cord, and had her hair pulled and cut during the ordeal.

In a page ripped from a Hollywood film about a broken criminal justice system, a judge in Marion, Alabama is under fire for ordering poor offenders to donate blood or go to jail, according to The New York Times.
Circuit Judge Marvin Wiggins reportedly made the order in September before a packed courtroom comprised of offenders, “who owed fines or fees for a wide variety of crimes — hunting after dark, assault, drug possession and passing bad checks among them,” notes the report.
“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,” began Judge Wiggins, a circuit judge here in rural Alabama since 1999. “For your consideration, there’s a blood drive outside,” he continued, according to a recording of the hearing. “If you don’t have any money, go out there and give blood and bring in a receipt indicating you gave blood.”
For those who had no money or did not want to give blood, the judge concluded: “The sheriff has enough handcuffs.”

21 year old Marcus Gafney is no genius, but he is a cold blooded killer who murdered his former girlfriend because she was receiving child support that was garnished from his paychecks at the fast food franchise McDonalds. 33 year old Tamika Jones was shot while she was at work in Sacramento, California, and police allege that Gafney drove all the way from Texas to California just to kill her. The videotaped confession that the angry baby daddy made to police confirms this fact as well. Gafney complained to police that he was only making $8.50 an hour at his job, and the 3 deductions for child support was taking half of his paycheck each pay period.

Two outside investigators looking into the death of Tamir Rice have concluded that a Cleveland police officer, Tim Loehmann, acted reasonably in deciding last year to shoot when he confronted the 12-year-old boy carrying what turned out to be a replica gun.
Those opinions, reached separately by a Colorado prosecutor and a former F.B.I. supervisory special agent, were released Saturday night by the Cuyahoga County prosecutor, Timothy J. McGinty, whose office will ultimately present evidence in the case to a grand jury to decide on possible criminal charges.

Nazi concentration camp survivors were able to settle throughout the world and eventually founded the nation of Israel. But the Holocaust survivors in this country are still suffering with an estimated 150,000 age 65+ living below the poverty line. In response, the Obama administration last week approved $12 million in aid over the next five years to assist these survivors. Baltimore's bloody summer ended with a barrage of bangs, as the rate of homicides and gun crimes continued to spike in the wake of the racially charged case of Freddie Gray, whose death in police custody left citizens angry and cops demoralized.
For September, homicides were up 39 percent and non-fatal shootings nearly doubled over the same month in 2014, continuing a disturbing trend that has gripped the Charm City since Gray's death in April and the rioting that followed. For the year, murders are up 52 percent and non-fatal shootings 80 percent over last year.

Outraged Russian officials asked UK ministers "to provide an official explanation" of reports that RAF Tornados operating over Iraq have been fitted with heat-seeking missiles designed for arial combat.
The Russian ambassador in London, Alexander Yakovenko, said he had "urgently requested explanations" of the reports from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

They line up on the edge of the water, their silhouettes barely visible in the wee hours before the sun rises. Groups of 10 to 12 climb aboard rafts mounted with plywood and pay less than $2 to be ferried to the other side. Within the span of 20 minutes, at least 60 have crossed aboard six rafts.
All of them are Cuban migrants en route to the United States. The illegal crossing scene at the Rio Suchiate — the body of water that separates Guatemala from Mexico — is happening every day under the cover of darkness.

Caddy Steve Williams has broken his silence for the first time since the Tiger Woods sex scandal, revealing his former boss also had a bad temper, threw clubs and would spit at the hole if he missed a putt.
In his tell-all book Out of the Rough, written with Auckland journalist Michael Donaldson, Williams says both Woods and his manager Mark Steinberg cut off all communication with him for four months after news of Woods' affair with Rachel Uchitel broke. Williams claims he and his family were harassed by media and members of the public by association because Steinberg refused to put out a statement clearing him of any involvement in the scandal.
