Police arrest an Upper Darby man tied to target of murder-for-hire plot

An Upper Darby man arrested in a Tuesday carjacking is expected to be charged with another carjacking connected to the death of a man who was the target of a murder-for-hire plot on Facebook, police said Wednesday.
Alexander Solomon, 24, is expected to be charged with stealing an Oldsmobile Monday night that was later seen fleeing the scene of the fatal shooting of Corey White, 22, in West Philadelphia, police said.
In May, the mother of White's 3-year-old daughter allegedly posted an offer on Facebook to pay anyone who would kill him.
But police in Upper Darby say they believe White's death had nothing to do with the Facebook solicitation.

"It looks like it could've been a drug deal gone bad," said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood Sr.
Solomon was arrested Tuesday night in West Philadelphia and charged with carjacking a 1994 Chevrolet Impala in Upper Darby.
Solomon, who was being held Wednesday after failing to post $3 million cash bail, is being investigated in a third carjacking and in the theft of another car, Chitwood said.
Chitwood said Philadelphia homicide detectives would decide whether to pursue a murder charge.
White's ex-girlfriend, London Eley, 19, of Upper Darby, and Timothy Bynum, 18, of Darby, were held for trial Monday on charges of criminal solicitation for murder and attempted murder.
Authorities said White had been involved in a deadly shooting July 18. Police say they believe White was with John Gordon, 37, of Southwest Philadelphia, when Gordon allegedly fired 13 shots outside a bar in Upper Darby. Randy Campbell, 23, was fatally wounded by the gunfire.
