Tamika Compton, 25 |
A Georgia woman who suffered pain in her arm has been diagnosed with a flesh eating bacteria.
Tamika Compton, 25, went to the hospital after experiencing arm pain and was initially diagnosed with tendinitis and given a shot to numb the pain, FOX 5 reports.
After the pain persisted and her arm began to swell, Compton went to another hospital for a second opinion where she was diagnosed with a flesh eating bacteria.
WSB-TV reports that doctors and family are not certain of how the young woman came in contact with the flesh eating bacteria.
“It’s a very scary situation to understand that your sister could be losing her life,” says Tamika’s brother Travon Compton. “It’s a pretty good amount of her arm. She’ll be lucky to have any of it to be salvaged.”
Compton says part of his sister’s arm has already been amputated. He explained that his sister’s medical problems began with a small bump on her elbow.
“We’re very stressed out and it’s been a hard and emotional time all week, but there’s a lot of hope and a lot of prayer (and) positive energy from her waking up and being conscious now. We definitely appreciate the prayers and all the positive energy helping her out,” Compton said. “Saving her life is the No.1 priority and we’re just very grateful to be alive to have the fight.”
He cautioned other people to take notice when they begin to feel unexpected pain in their limbs.
“Just watch what your body does and how your limbs are feeling. Or if you have any pain just get it checked out. You definitely don’t want to wait until it’s too late,” said Compton.
Tamika has already had four surgeries in seven days.
Deuteronomy 28:
21 The Lord shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it.
22 The Lord shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.
Luke 5:
31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.
32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
