S.C. Women Pastors Receiving Threatening Letters From “Apostle Prophet”

Even though South Carolina shooter Dylann Roof is in custody, some black church pastors in thepastor rhodes state haven’t been able to let their guard down due to new threats.
Three churches have reported receiving letters threatening violence. In painful irony, the writer of the letter uses Bible verses to threaten female pastors.
One letter, addressed to Pastor Mary Rhodes, was left at Society Hill AME Church on June 10th.
“Whoever wrote this letter has taken the rime to find out who I am which means you may know my children, my grandchildren, and I have no clue who you are” Pastor Rhodes told WISTV.
Another letter left for Pastor Valarie Bartley said that “the woman cannot be head of the man in church, home and the world.”
“A lot of people do not respect female pastors,” Rhodes said. “Sexism in the church has been around for the longest time and it always gets, to my opinion, sort of hidden under the other issues that are there.”
Both letters were signed by “Apostle Prophet” Harry Leon Fleming.“The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their quest in attempt to locate the person or persons responsible for distributing the letters and will have deputies posted at every church that received the letter,” a statement from Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett read. “The citizens of Clarendon County will be able to worship in peace…”

1 Timothy 2:11-13
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

1 Corinthians 14:34-35
34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.
35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
