SAE May Sue University of Oklahoma For Actions Against Frat

The board of directors of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at the University of Oklahoma has retained an attorney after the university closed the fraternity chapter on its campus last week.

Lawyer Stephen Jones was hired by the alumni board of SAE at OU after the school disbanded and evicted the entire fraternity from campus, and was set to expel the two SAE members who were featured in a racist video taken on a party bus.

NAACP battles Latino groups over push to open public schools for non-English speakers

WASHINGTON –  A plan that would dedicate two public high schools in suburban Washington to immigrants and students struggling with English is pitting black and Hispanic communities -– usually allies -- against one another.

The Prince George’s County, Md., chapter of the NAACP is strongly opposing the plan -- which would take effect next school year, and cover about 800 students having English language difficulties -- claiming it will pull resources from other students and unfairly redistribute them to Hispanic students. Some critics go so far as to compare the plan to segregation.

Students pray about fraternity incident in prayer circle

Students and faculty gathered in the North Oval by the George Lynn Cross statue in response and watched a video of Sigma Alpha Epsilon members participating in a racist chant on a bus.

Attendees gathered in small circles and prayed, then they all joined together into one big circle for a large prayer. People prayed about the people affected by the video and asked for forgiveness for the ones involved in the incident.

Indiana governor signs amended 'religious freedom' law

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Gov. Mike Pence on Thursday signed into law revisions in the state's divisive Religious Freedom Restoration Act aimed at removing fears that it would allow businesses to discriminate against gays and lesbians.

Somali Militants Kill 147 at Kenyan University

NAIROBI, Kenya — Somali militants burst into a university in eastern Kenya on Thursday and killed nearly 150 students in the worst terrorist attack since the 1998 bombing of the United States Embassy here, laying bare the nation’s continuing vulnerability after years of battling Islamist extremism.

A small group of militants, most likely between four and 10, roved from dorm to dorm, separating Christian from Muslim students and killing the Christians, the authorities said. Seven of 10 whites polled, or 70 percent, said they can imagine a situation in which they would approve of a police officer striking an adult male citizen, according to the 2014 General Social Survey, a long-running measurement of trends in American opinions. Saudi and Arab allies bomb Houthi positions in Yemen / Warplanes hit Yemen's Sanaa overnight, after dawn-residents

Saudi Arabia and a coalition of regional allies have launched a military operation in Yemen against the Houthi rebels, who deposed the US-backed Yemeni president last month.

Adel al-Jubair, Saudi ambassador to the US, said on Wednesday that a coalition consisting of 10 countries, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), had begun airstrikes at 7pm Eastern time.

NSA shooting: 1 dead after 2 men dressed as women tried to crash gate outside Fort Meade

One person was killed in gunfire that erupted outside National Security Agency headquarters at Fort Meade, Md., Monday after a car carrying two men dressed as women tried to crash through a checkpoint at the base, officials say.

One of the men in the car was killed when armed security guard at the gate opened fire, a senior U.S. official told The Associated Press. ABC News reported that the other was “severely injured” and “probably won’t survive.”

Man who jumps off Mathews Bridge said goodbye to ex-girlfriend

A local man jumped to his death from the Mathews Bridge Tuesday night after crashing his car and now Action News is learning why he did it. 

Dive teams and rescue crews suspended their search Wednesday morning after scanning the water for several hours. Investigators say just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, the driver of a dark-colored SUV was speeding on the Mathews Bridge, crashed into the median, spun out of control and slammed into another car that was carrying five passengers.

Lorain County authorities arrest 30 in family-run cocaine operation

ELYRIA, Ohio- Thirty people have been arrested for a family-run cocaine ring in Lorain County.

The Elyria Police Narcotics Unit, Lorain Police Narcotics Bureau and the Lorain County Sheriff’s Drug Task Forced started investigating the Burns, Milton and Tillman families for cocaine trafficking in February.
